महर्षि पुत्रम् मारीचम् अर्चिष्मन्तम् महाकपिम् ।
वृतम् कपिवरैः शूरैः महेन्द्र सदृश द्युतिम् ॥ ॥४-४२-३॥
Maharṣi putram mārīcam arciṣmantam mahākapim । Vṛtam kapivaraiḥ śūraiḥ mahendra sadṛśa dyutim ॥ ॥4-42-3॥
Translation
(Sugriva also spoke to) the great monkey Maricha, the son of a Maharshi, who was radiant, surrounded by heroic monkeys, and possessed luster like Mahendra (Indra).

(सुग्रीव ने) महर्षि पुत्र मारीच से भी कहा, जो अर्चिष्मान (तेजस्वी) महाकपि हैं, शूरवीर वानरों से घिरे हुए हैं और देवराज इन्द्र के समान कांति वाले हैं।
English Commentary
The text introduces Maricha, described as Maharshi putram (son of a great sage). Note: This is a Vanara commander, distinct from the demon Maricha appearing earlier in the epic. His description as archishmantam (radiant/flaming) and possessing the luster of Indra highlights the semi-divine lineage of the Vanara chiefs. Sugriva is assembling a team of high-caliber leaders for the West. Mentioning his lineage emphasizes that this squad comprises individuals possessing spiritual potency alongside physical strength, necessary for the unknown perils of the Western direction.
