बुद्धि विक्रम सम्पन्नान् वैनतेय सम द्युतिम् ।
मरीचि पुत्रान् मारीचान् अर्चिर्माल्यान् महाबलान् ॥ ॥४-४२-४॥
Buddhi vikrama sampannān vainateya sama dyutim । Marīci putrānu mārīcān arcirmālyān mahābalān ॥ ॥4-42-4॥
Translation
They were endowed with intelligence and valor, possessing splendor like Garuda (Vainateya). The sons of Marichi (the Marichas) and the Archirmalyas, all mighty Vanaras, were present.

वे बुद्धि और पराक्रम से सम्पन्न थे, गरुड़ (वैनतेय) के समान उनकी कांति थी। मरीचि के पुत्र मारीचगण और अर्चिर्माल्यादि महाबली वानर भी वहाँ थे।
English Commentary
Here, the Vanaras are compared to Vainateya (Garuda), the eagle-mount of Vishnu, symbolizing supreme speed and power. The reference to the 'sons of Marichi' reaffirms their high lineage. The term buddhi vikrama sampannan (endowed with intellect and valor) is crucial; Sugriva recognizes that brute force alone is insufficient—strategic intelligence is equally vital. The West serves as a difficult frontier, and comparing his troops to Garuda suggests Sugriva expects them to traverse vast distances and potentially aerial threats with agility and dominance.
