तम् अतिक्रम्य शैलेन्द्रम् महेन्द्र परिपालितम् ।
षष्टिम् गिरि सहस्राणि कांचनानि गमिष्यथ ॥ ॥४-४२-३६॥
Tam atikramya śailendram mahendra paripālitam । Ṣaṣṭim giri sahasrāṇi kāñcanāni gamiṣyatha ॥ ॥4-42-36॥
Translation
After crossing that king of mountains protected by Mahendra, you will come across sixty thousand golden hills.
हिंदी अनुवाद
महेंद्र (इन्द्र) द्वारा सुरक्षित उस पर्वतराज (मेघ) को पार करके तुम लोग साठ हजार सोने के पर्वतों के समूह में प्रवेश करोगे।
English Commentary
The journey continues past Mount Megha, which is described as being under the protection of Indra (Mahendra paripalitam). The scale of the geography expands dramatically here, as Sugriva tells the Vanaras they will encounter a range consisting of sixty thousand golden hills. This hyperbole emphasizes the vastness and the labyrinthine nature of the terrain ahead. Searching through 60,000 mountains implies a task requiring immense patience and coordination. The recurring theme of gold (kanchanani) suggests a realm that is otherworldly, perhaps signifying lands that are touched by the setting sun's golden rays.
