योजनानाम् सहस्राणि दश तानि दिवाकरः ।
मुहूर्त अर्धेन तम् शीघ्रम् अभियाति शिल उच्चयम् ॥ ॥४-४२-४३॥
Yojanānām sahasrāṇi daśa tāni divākaraḥ । muhūrta ardhena tam śīghram abhiyāti śila uccayam ॥ ॥4-42-43॥
Translation
The Day-Maker (Sun) swiftly traverses that distance of ten thousand Yojanas in just half a Muhurta to reach that lofty mountain.

दिन करने वाले सूर्यदेव (दिवाकर) दस हजार योजन की उस दूरी को आधे मुहूर्त में शीघ्रता से पार करके उस श्रेष्ठ पर्वत पर पहुँच जाते हैं।
English Commentary
Sugriva provides a precise calculation of the Sun's speed as it approaches the western horizon. Traveling ten thousand Yojanas in half a Muhurta (approximately 24 minutes) implies a tremendous velocity. This verse serves to emphasize the vastness of the cosmos and the divine power of the Sun (Divakara). For the Vanara army, this description serves as a practical reminder of the fleeting nature of daylight in these distant regions. The swift transition from light to dark necessitates urgent action in their search operations, as the window for visibility is drastically short at the world's edge.

यहाँ सूर्य की गति का अद्भुत वर्णन किया गया है। सुग्रीव कहते हैं कि सूर्यदेव अपनी यात्रा के अंतिम चरण में दस हजार योजन की दूरी केवल 'मुहूर्त अर्धेन' (आधे मुहूर्त यानी लगभग 24 मिनट) में तय करते हैं। यह श्लोक प्राचीन भारतीय खगोल विज्ञान और समय की गणना का संकेत देता है। इसका तात्पर्य यह है कि सूर्यास्त के समय सूर्य की गति बहुत तीव्र प्रतीत होती है या वह तेजी से क्षितिज के नीचे जाता है। वानरों के लिए यह जानकारी इसलिए महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि वहाँ दिन बहुत तेजी से समाप्त होता है, अत: उन्हें अपने कार्य में अत्यंत शीघ्रता बरतनी होगी।
