Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एतावत् वानरैः शक्यम् गन्तुम् वानर पुंगवाः ।
अभास्करम् अमर्यादम् न जानीमः ततः परम् ॥ ॥४-४२-५१॥
Etāvat vānaraiḥ śakyam gantum vānara puṃgavāḥ । Abhāskaram amaryādam na jānīmaḥ tataḥ param ॥ ॥4-42-51॥
Translation
O best of Vanaras! It is possible for monkeys to go only up to this point. Beyond that lies a sunless and boundless region, of which we know nothing.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वानर श्रेष्ठों! वानरों द्वारा बस यहाँ तक ही जाया जा सकता है। इसके आगे सूर्य से रहित और सीमाहीन (अमर्याद) प्रदेश है, जिसे हम नहीं जानते।
English Commentary
This acts as the definitive "Stop" sign for the western expedition. Sugriva addresses the elite Vanaras (Vanara pungavah), stating that this is the physical limit of their advance. The region beyond is described as Abhaskaram (sunless) and Amaryadam (boundless/undefined). By admitting "we do not know what lies beyond" (na janeemah), Sugriva emphasizes that the mission is strictly terrestrial and bound by the laws of the illuminated world. It saves the army from venturing into the void of the unknown cosmos.

सुग्रीव अपनी भौगोलिक जानकारी की ईमानदारी से सीमा स्वीकार करते हैं। वह स्पष्ट कहते हैं कि वानर सेना केवल वहीं तक जा सकती है जहाँ तक सूर्य का प्रकाश है। उसके आगे का क्षेत्र 'अभास्करम्' (सूर्य रहित/अंधकारमय) और 'अमर्यादम्' (जिसकी कोई सीमा न हो/अनंत) है। 'न जानीमः' (हम नहीं जानते) कहकर सुग्रीव ने यथार्थवाद का परिचय दिया है। यह अज्ञात का भय और रहस्य बनाए रखता है। यह श्लोक अभियान की अंतिम सीमा रेखा (Dead end) खींच देता है—इसके आगे जाना न संभव है और न ही वांछनीय।
