Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दृष्टायाम् तु नरेन्द्रस्या पत्न्याम् अमित तेजसः ।
कृत कृत्या भविष्यामः कृतस्य प्रतिकर्मणा ॥४-४२-५६॥
dṛṣṭāyām tu narendrasyā patnyām amita tejasaḥ |
kṛta kṛtyā bhaviṣyāmaḥ kṛtasya pratikarmaṇā ॥4-42-56॥
Translation
Once the wife of the Lord of Men (Rama), who possesses immeasurable splendor, is seen, we shall consider our purpose achieved, having reciprocated the favor done for us.

अमित तेजस्वी नरेंद्र (राम) की पत्नी (सीता) के दर्शन हो जाने पर, उनके द्वारा हमारे लिए किए गए उपकार का बदला चुकाकर हम कृतकृत्य (सफल) हो जाएंगे।
English Commentary
This verse encapsulates the ethos of reciprocity and gratitude (krtajnata) central to the Ramayana. Sugriva frames the search for Sita not just as a rescue mission, but as pratikarma—a counter-act or repayment for a deed already done. Rama, referred to here as the "Lord of Men" of "immeasurable splendor," had previously fulfilled his promise by slaying Vali and restoring Sugriva's kingdom. Now, Sugriva asserts that finding Sita is the only way to become kṛta-kṛtyā (one who has accomplished what needed to be done). This elevates the mission from a mere search operation to a moral obligation. Sugriva is instilling a sense of personal responsibility in his troops; they are not just serving Sugriva, they are helping him uphold his dharma and honor his friendship with Rama. It underscores that true alliance rests on mutual support in times of crisis.

यह श्लोक 'मित्र-धर्म' और 'कृतज्ञता' के मूल सिद्धांत को परिभाषित करता है। सुग्रीव यहाँ 'कृतस्य प्रतिकर्मणा' (किये हुए का बदला/प्रत्युपकार) की बात कर रहे हैं। भगवान राम ने बालि का वध करके सुग्रीव को उनका खोया हुआ राज्य और पत्नी रुमा वापस दिलाई थी। अब सुग्रीव इसे अपना परम कर्तव्य मानते हैं कि वे राम की पत्नी, सीता को खोजकर उस ऋण से मुक्त हों। 'नरेंद्र' शब्द राम के राजसी और मानवीय अधिकार को दर्शाता है, जबकि 'अमित तेजसः' उनके दैवीय प्रभाव को। सुग्रीव वानरों को यह याद दिला रहे हैं कि यह खोज केवल एक राजाज्ञा नहीं है, बल्कि एक नैतिक ऋण को चुकाने का अवस आपने किया है। जब तक सीता नहीं मिल जातीं, सुग्रीव का मन भारमुक्त नहीं होगा; यही भावना वे अपनी सेना में भी संचारित कर रहे हैं।
