अतो अन्यत् अपि यत् कार्यम् कार्यस्य अस्य प्रियम् भवेत् ।
संप्रधार्य भवद्भिः च देश काल अर्थ संहितम् ॥४-४२-५७॥

sampradhārya bhavadbhiḥ ca deśa kāla artha saṃhitam ॥4-42-57॥

English Commentary
This verse signifies the transition from specific orders to strategic autonomy. Sugriva, recognizing the unpredictability of the mission, empowers his troops to use their own judgment based on the triad of desha (place), kala (time), and artha (purpose/objective). This is a sophisticated military doctrine often found in ancient texts like the Arthashastra. Sugriva understands that rigid adherence to pre-set orders can be fatal in unknown territories. By authorizing them to do "whatever else" is favorable to the mission, he grants them tactical flexibility. This trust in their discretion shows that the Vanaras are not mere foot soldiers but intelligent operatives capable of assessing situations and acting in the best interest of the primary objective—finding Sita. It completes his instructions by balancing strict obedience to the leader (Sushena) with the necessary flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.
