विशाला नलिनी यत्र प्रभूत कमलोत्पला ।
हंस कारण्डव आकीर्णा अप्सरो गण सेविता ॥४-४३-२२॥
viśālā nalinī yatra prabhūta kamalotpala |
haṃsa kāraṇḍava ākīrṇā apsaro gaṇa sevitā ॥4-43-22॥
Translation
Where there is a vast lotus pond, filled with abundant lotuses and water-lilies, crowded with swans and Karandava birds, and frequented by groups of Apsaras.

जहाँ एक विशाल नलिनी (कमल सरोवर) है, जो बहुत से कमलों और उत्पलों (नीलकमल) से भरी है, जहाँ हंस और कारण्डव पक्षी विचरण करते हैं और जो अप्सराओं के समूहों द्वारा सेवित है।
English Commentary
Sugriva details the surroundings of Kubera's palace, specifically a "vishala nalini" (vast lotus lake). The ecosystem is divine, filled with both "kamala" (lotuses) and "utpala" (lilies), and inhabited by royal swans ("hamsa"). The presence of "Apsaro gana" (groups of celestial nymphs) signifies this is a pleasure garden of the gods. This imagery serves to identify the location precisely. In the context of the search, such beautiful, secluded spots frequented by semi-divine beings are prime locations where a powerful entity like Ravana might conceal a captive princess.
