Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अस्मिन् कार्ये विनिवृत्ते कृते दाशरथेः प्रिये ।
ऋणान् मुक्ता भविष्यामः कृत अर्था अर्थविदाम् वराः ॥४-४३-५॥
asmin kārye vinivṛtte kṛte dāśaratheḥ priye |
ṛṇān muktā bhaviṣyāmaḥ kṛta arthā arthavidām varāḥ ॥4-43-5॥
Translation
When this task is accomplished and the dear work of Dasharatha's son is done, we shall be freed from debt and our purpose fulfilled, O best among those who understand goals.
हिंदी अनुवाद
दशरथनंदन राम का यह प्रिय कार्य संपन्न हो जाने पर हम उनके ऋण से मुक्त हो जाएंगे और हे अर्थवेत्ताओं में श्रेष्ठ! हम कृतार्थ (सफल) हो जाएंगे।
English Commentary
This verse underscores the concept of moral debt ('Rina') in the Dharmic framework. Sugriva acknowledges that he is indebted to Rama for the restoration of his kingdom and family. Completing Rama's 'dear work' (finding Sita) is the only valid repayment. Sugriva addresses his troops as experts in understanding purpose ('arthavidam varah'), elevating the mission from a mere search operation to a spiritual and ethical imperative. He posits that true success ('Kritartha') is achieved not just by gaining power, but by discharging one's obligations to a benefactor. It reveals Sugriva's deep sense of honor and gratitude.

यह श्लोक 'मित्र-धर्म' और 'कृतज्ञता' के सिद्धांत पर आधारित है। सुग्रीव राम के प्रति अपने दायित्व को 'ऋण' (कर्ज) के रूप में देखते हैं, क्योंकि राम ने बाली का वध करके उन्हें राज्य और पत्नी रुमा वापस दिलाई थी। भारतीय संस्कृति में उपकार का बदला चुकाना परम धर्म माना गया है। सुग्रीव अपने वानरों को 'अर्थविदाम् वराः' (प्रयोजन को जानने वालों में श्रेष्ठ) कहते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि वे जानते हैं कि जीवन का वास्तविक उद्देश्य केवल भोग नहीं, बल्कि धर्म और कर्तव्य का पालन करना है। सीता की खोज से ही वह ऋण चुकता होगा।
