Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सा हि सोम गिरिः नाम देवानाम् अपि दुर्गमः ।
तम् आलोक्य ततः क्षिप्रम् उपावर्तितुम् अर्हथ ॥४-४३-५८॥
sā hi soma giriḥ nāma devānām api durgamaḥ |
tam ālokya tataḥ kṣipram upāvartitum arhatha ॥4-43-58॥
Translation
That mountain named Somagiri is difficult of access even for the Devas. Therefore, having merely viewed it (from afar), you should return quickly.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह सोमगिरि नामक पर्वत देवताओं के लिए भी दुर्गम (कठिनाई से प्राप्त होने योग्य) है। अतः उसे दूर से देखकर ही तुम लोगों को शीघ्र लौट आना चाहिए।
English Commentary
This verse reinforces the hierarchy of power. If the Somagiri is 'durgamaḥ' (difficult to traverse) even for celestial gods, it is completely off-limits for the Vanara army. Sugriva acts as a prudent general, setting clear parameters for the mission to ensure the safety of his troops. The instruction is precise: visual confirmation ('alokya') of the landmark is sufficient; physical exploration of that specific sacred zone is prohibited. They must return immediately after sighting it.

यहाँ सुग्रीव की व्यावहारिकता और ज्ञान झलकता है। वे जानते हैं कि उत्साह में वानर सीमा लांघ सकते हैं। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि जब वह स्थान देवताओं के लिए भी 'दुर्गम' है, तो वानरों की क्या बिसात। 'आलोक्य' (देखकर) और 'उपावर्तितुम्' (लौट आना) शब्द निर्देश देते हैं कि उस पर्वत के दर्शन मात्र से ही खोज पूरी मान ली जाएगी। यह सीता की खोज और अपनी सीमाओं के सम्मान के बीच का संतुलन है।
