Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स तत् गृह्य हरिश्रेष्ठः स्थाप्य मूर्ध्नि कृतांजलिः ।
वन्दित्वा चरणौ चैव प्रस्थितः प्लवगर्षभः ॥ ॥४-४४-१५॥
sa tat gṛhya hariśreṣṭhaḥ sthāpya mūrdhni kṛtāñjaliḥ |
vanditvā caraṇau caiva prasthitaḥ plavagarṣabhaḥ ॥4-44-15॥
Translation
That best of monkeys (Hanuman) took the ring, placed it upon his head (as a mark of reverence), and with folded hands bowed to Rama's feet. Then, the bull among monkeys departed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वानरश्रेष्ठ हनुमान ने उस अंगूठी को ग्रहण कर अपने मस्तक पर धारण किया (सिर से लगाया)। फिर हाथ जोड़कर और (राम के) चरणों की वंदना करके वह वानरवीर वहां से प्रस्थान कर गया।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the quintessential Vaishnava etiquette of receiving a gift or command from the Lord. Hanuman places the ring on his head (Sthapya murdhni), symbolizing that Rama’s command is his highest priority and burden of love. The physical act of bowing to the feet (Vanditva charanau) seals the covenant between master and servant. The terminology shifts from Hari to Plavagarshabha (Bull among the leapers/monkeys), emphasizing his dominance and readiness to lead the pack. It marks the transition from the planning phase to the execution phase. Hanuman leaves not just with a map, but with a holy relic that empowers him.

हनुमान जी की भक्ति और विनय यहाँ दर्शनीय है। अंगूठी लेते ही उन्होंने उसे जेब या वस्त्र में नहीं रखा, अपितु 'स्थाप्य मूर्ध्नि'—मस्तक पर रखा। भारतीय संस्कृति में किसी वस्तु को सिर से लगाना उस वस्तु और उसे देने वाले के प्रति सर्वोच्च सम्मान का सूचक है। राम की आज्ञा और उनकी निशानी हनुमान के लिए शिरोधार्य है। 'कृतांजलिः' (हाथ जोड़े हुए) और चरण-वंदना गुरु और स्वामी के प्रति समर्पण दर्शाते हैं। 'प्लवगर्षभः' (वानरों में वृषभ/श्रेष्ठ) विशेषण उनके शारीरिक बल और नेतृत्व क्षमता को दर्शाता है, जबकि उनका व्यवहार उनकी विनम्रता को। शक्ति और विनय का यह मणिकांचन संयोग ही हनुमान को 'हरिश्रेष्ठ' बनाता है।
