स तत् प्रकर्षन् हरिणाम् महत् बलम् बभूव वीरः पवनात्मजः कपिः ।
गत अंबुदे व्योम्नि विशुद्ध मण्डलः शशी इव नक्षत्र गणोपशोभितः ॥ ॥४-४४-१६॥
sa tat prakarṣan hariṇām mahat balam babhūva vīraḥ pavanātmajaḥ kapiḥ |
gata ambude vyomni viśuddha maṇḍalaḥ śaśī iva nakṣatra gaṇopaśobhitaḥ ॥4-44-16॥
Translation
Leading that great army of monkeys, the heroic son of the Wind, Hanuman, appeared resplendent like the clear-orbed moon amidst a host of stars in a cloudless sky.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वानरों की उस विशाल सेना का नेतृत्व (खींचते हुए) करते हुए वीर पवनपुत्र हनुमान वैसे ही सुशोभित हुए, जैसे बादलों से रहित निर्मल आकाश में नक्षत्रों के समूह से घिरे हुए चंद्रमा सुशोभित होते हैं।
English Commentary
The poet uses celestial imagery to describe the terrestrial march. Hanuman is likened to the Moon (Shashi) and his army to the stars (Nakshatra gana). This comparison serves two purposes: it highlights Hanuman's preeminence among his peers and suggests a purity of purpose (indicated by the Gata ambude—cloudless—sky). Just as the moon guides the night and provides a cooling light, Hanuman is the guiding light for the Vanaras in this dark time of Rama's distress. The phrase Prakarshan (drawing/pulling) implies dynamic leadership; he is the locomotive force pulling the Mahat balam (great force) of the search party forward.

वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ एक अत्यंत मनोरम उपमा (Simile) का प्रयोग करते हैं। हनुमान जी की तुलना 'शशी' (चंद्रमा) से और अन्य वानरों की तुलना 'नक्षत्र गण' से की गई है। जैसे चंद्रमा तारों के बीच सबसे तेजस्वी होता है, वैसे ही हनुमान अपनी सेना में सबसे प्रमुख हैं। 'गत अंबुदे' (बादल रहित) आकाश का उल्लेख यह संकेत देता है कि अब संदेह के बादल छंट चुके हैं और उद्देश्य स्पष्ट है। 'प्रकर्षन्' का अर्थ है खींचना या नेतृत्व करना; यह दर्शाता है कि हनुमान केवल सेना का हिस्सा नहीं हैं, बल्कि वे उस ऊर्जा के स्रोत हैं जो सेना को आगे बढ़ा रही है। यह श्लोक हनुमान के तेजस्वी व्यक्तित्व और उनके नेतृत्व कौशल को काव्यात्मक रूप में प्रस्तुत करता है।
