अब्रवीत् च हनूमंतम् विक्रंतम् अनिल आत्मजम् ।
सुग्रीवः परम प्रीतः प्रभुः सर्व वन ओकसाम् ॥४-४४-२॥
abravīt ca hanūmaṃtam vikraṃtam anila ātmajam |
sugrīvaḥ parama prītaḥ prabhuḥ sarva vana okasām ॥4-44-2॥
Translation
Sugriva, the Lord of all forest dwellers, feeling supremely pleased, spoke to the valorous Hanuman, the son of the Wind.
हिंदी अनुवाद
समस्त वनवासियों के स्वामी सुग्रीव ने परम प्रसन्न होकर पराक्रमी वायुपुत्र हनुमान से कहा।
English Commentary
The epithets used here are deliberate. Sugriva is the 'Prabhu' (Lord), asserting authority, but his demeanor is 'parama preetah' (highly pleased), indicating a relationship of trust rather than just command. Hanuman is identified as 'Anila atmajam' (Son of Wind). This patronymic is crucial because the upcoming tasks involving crossing the ocean require the attributes of Vayu: speed, strength, and flight. It foreshadows the supernatural feats Hanuman is about to perform.

सुग्रीव यहाँ 'प्रभुः सर्व वन ओकसाम्' (सभी वनवासियों के स्वामी) के रूप में वर्णित हैं, जो उनके अधिकार को दर्शाता है। किन्तु हनुमान के प्रति उनका भाव 'परम प्रीतः' (अत्यंत प्रसन्न/स्नेही) है। हनुमान को 'विक्रंतम्' (पराक्रमी) और 'अनिल आत्मजम्' (वायु पुत्र) कहा गया है। 'वायु पुत्र' विशेषण का प्रयोग जानबूझकर किया गया है क्योंकि दक्षिण दिशा (जहाँ हनुमान को जाना है) में समुद्र लांघने के लिए वायु के समान गुणों की आवश्यकता होगी।
