तारा अंगदादि सहितः प्लवगः पवनात्मजः ।
अगस्त्य चरिताम् आशाम् दक्षिणाम् हरि यूथपः ॥ ॥४-४५-६॥
tārā aṅgadādi sahitaḥ plavagaḥ pavanātmajaḥ |
agastya caritām āśām dakṣiṇām hari yūthapaḥ ॥4-45-6॥
Translation
Accompanied by Tara, Angada, and others, the monkey-hero Son of the Wind (Hanuman) and other monkey leaders headed towards the Southern direction, which is associated with Sage Agastya.

तार और अंगद आदि के साथ वानरवीर पवनपुत्र (हनुमान) तथा अन्य वानर यूथपति, अगस्त्य मुनि द्वारा सेवित (आबाद की हुई) दक्षिण दिशा की ओर चले।
English Commentary
This verse designates the composition of the most critical search party. The South is the direction of Yama (Death) and, crucially, the abode of Ravana. Recognizing the gravity of this route, Sugriva deploys his "Special Forces": Angada (the crown prince), Hanuman (Pavanatmajah), and senior advisors. The direction is poetically described as Agastya caritam—the direction traversed/inhabited by Sage Agastya. Agastya is the cultural hero who subdued the Vindhya mountains and digested the demon Vatapi, effectively "conquering" the South for Dharma. Invoking his name serves as a benediction and a foreshadowing that this group, like Agastya, will have to overcome insurmountable odds and demoniac forces in the southern realms.

यह श्लोक सामरिक दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। दक्षिण दिशा सबसे कठिन और महत्वपूर्ण मानी गई है क्योंकि रावण का निवास उसी ओर था (यद्यपि यह अभी वानरों के लिए केवल अनुमान है)। इसीलिए इस दिशा में 'क्रीम ऑफ द आर्मी' (सर्वश्रेष्ठ योद्धाओं) को भेजा गया—अंगद (युवराज), हनुमान (बुद्धिमान और शक्तिशाली), और जाम्बवान (अनुभवी)। दक्षिण दिशा को 'अगस्त्य चरिताम्' कहा गया है। पौराणिक संदर्भ यह है कि महर्षि अगस्त्य ने विंध्याचल पर्वत को झुकने पर विवश किया था और 'वातापि' नामक असुर का भक्षण कर दक्षिण को रहने योग्य बनाया था। यह विशेषण यह संकेत देता है कि जिस प्रकार अगस्त्य ने दक्षिण की बाधाओं को दूर किया था, उसी प्रकार यह दल भी दक्षिण में आने वाली बाधाओं (राक्षसों) पर विजय प्राप्त करेगा।
