सुग्रीवः च ततो रामम् उवाच प्रणत आत्मवान् ।
श्रूयताम् सर्वम् आख्यास्ये विस्तरेण वचो मम ॥ ॥४-४६-२॥
sugrīvaḥ ca tato rāmam uvāca praṇata ātmavān |
śrūyatām sarvam ākhyāsye vistareṇa vaco mama ॥4-46-2॥
Translation
Then Sugriva, self-controlled and bowing humbly, replied to Rama: "Listen, I shall relate my story to you in detail."
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब आत्मसंयमी सुग्रीव ने विनम्रतापूर्वक (झुककर) राम से कहा—"हे राम! सुनिए, मैं आपको अपनी बात विस्तार से बताता हूँ।"
English Commentary
Sugriva responds with the grace characteristic of a noble ally. He is described as Atmavan (self-possessed/prudent) and Pranata (bowing/humble). Instead of boasting about his intelligence, he prepares to narrate the tragic history that forced him to learn geography the hard way—by running for his life. The willingness to tell the story Vistarena (in detail) shows his transparency with Rama. This sets the stage for the recount of his feud with Vali.

सुग्रीव का विशेषण यहाँ 'आत्मवान्' (आत्मसंयमी या धैर्यवान) दिया गया है। राम की प्रशंसा सुनकर वे अहंकार में नहीं आए, बल्कि 'प्रणत' (विनम्र) भाव से उत्तर दिया। सुग्रीव अपने ज्ञान का श्रेय किसी विद्या या तपस्या को नहीं, बल्कि अपने जीवन के सबसे कठिन दौर को देते हैं। वे राम से 'श्रूयताम्' (सुनिए) कहते हैं, जो एक कथावाचक की शैली है। यह संवाद सुग्रीव और राम के बीच की मित्रता की गहराई को दिखाता है, जहाँ वे अपने निजी और दर्दनाक अतीत को साझा करने में सहज हैं।
