न विवेश तदा वाली मतंगस्य भयात् तदा ।
एवम् मया तदा राजन् प्रत्यक्षम् उपलक्षितम् ।
पृथिवी मण्डलम् सर्वम् गुहाम् अस्मि आगतः ततः ॥४-४६-२४॥
na viveśa tadā vālī mataṃgasya bhayāt tadā । evam mayā tadā rājan pratyakṣam upalakṣitam । pṛthivī maṇḍalam sarvam guhām asmi āgataḥ tataḥ ॥4-46-24॥
Translation
Vali did not enter there then, out of fear of Matanga. Thus, O King, the entire circle of the earth was directly observed by me, and thereafter I came to this cave.

मतंग ऋषि के भय से वालि ने उस समय प्रवेश नहीं किया। हे राजन! इस प्रकार मैंने उस समय सम्पूर्ण पृथ्वी मंडल को प्रत्यक्ष देखा और उसके बाद मैं इस गुफा में आ गया।
English Commentary
Sugriva concludes his narrative by confirming the efficacy of the sanctuary: Vali halted at the boundary out of fear of Sage Matanga. This verse serves as a summary of his exile. He states that he has "directly observed" (pratyaksham upalakshitam) the entire globe (Prithvi mandalam). This line is crucial for the plot ahead: it explains why Sugriva (and his Vanara army) possesses such detailed knowledge of global geography, which becomes essential when sending search parties for Sita later. His knowledge was hard-earned through the trauma of flight. He ends by connecting his past to the present moment—"I came to this cave"—grounding the flashback back into the current conversation with Rama.

इस सर्ग का यह समापन श्लोक है। सुग्रीव पुष्टि करते हैं कि शाप प्रभावी था—वालि 'मतंगस्य भयात्' (मतंग के डर से) अंदर नहीं आया। सुग्रीव अपनी कथा का सार बताते हैं: 'पृथिवी मण्डलम् सर्वम् प्रत्यक्षम् उपलक्षितम्' (मैंने पूरी पृथ्वी को अपनी आँखों से देखा)। यह केवल एक दावा नहीं है, बल्कि उनकी पीड़ा की गवाही है कि उन्हें जान बचाने के लिए पूरी दुनिया छाननी पड़ी। अंत में, वे कहते हैं कि वे इस 'गुहा' (गुफा) में आ गए। यह वही गुफा है जहाँ वे अभी राम के साथ बैठे हैं। सुग्रीव ने अपनी वैश्विक यात्रा और भूगोल के ज्ञान का कारण स्पष्ट कर दिया—यह ज्ञान जिज्ञासा से नहीं, बल्कि प्राण रक्षा की विवशता से प्राप्त हुआ था।
