ततो अहम् तत्र निक्षिप्तो गुहा द्वारि विनीतवत् ।
न च निष्क्रमते वाली तदा संवत्सरे गते ॥ ॥४-४६-५॥
tato aham tatra nikṣipto guhā dvāri vinītavat |
na ca niṣkramate vālī tadā saṃvatsare gate ॥4-46-5॥
Translation
"I was then placed at the entrance of the cave, waiting humbly. However, even after a full year had passed, Vali did not come out."

"तब मुझे गुफा के द्वार पर विनम्रतापूर्वक (पहरेदार की तरह) बैठा दिया गया। (मैं प्रतीक्षा करता रहा) किन्तु एक वर्ष बीत जाने पर भी वाली बाहर नहीं निकले।"
English Commentary
Sugriva emphasizes his loyalty and patience. He describes his posture as Vinitavat—like a disciplined subordinate or humble servant stationed at the door. The duration of the wait—Samvatsare gate (a year passed)—is crucial testimony. It implies that Sugriva did not hastily abandon his brother. Standing guard for a year at a cave entrance indicates immense dedication, countering the later narrative Vali constructs about Sugriva's betrayal.
