ततः क्षतज वेगेन आपुपूरे तदा बिलम् ।
तत् अहम् विस्मितो दृष्ट्वा भ्रातुः शोक विष अर्दितः ॥ ॥४-४६-६॥
tataḥ kṣataja vegena āpupūre tadā bilam |
tat aham vismito dṛṣṭvā bhrātuḥ śoka viṣa arditaḥ ॥4-46-6॥
Translation
"Then, the cave was filled with a gushing flow of blood. Seeing that, I was astonished and struck with the poison of grief for my brother."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"तभी गुफा (बिल) के भीतर से रक्त की वेगवती धारा बह निकली और वह बिल भर गया। यह देखकर मैं विस्मित हो गया और भाई के शोक रूपी विष से पीड़ित हो उठा।"
English Commentary
The climax of the confusion occurs here. The cave fills with blood (Kshataja). Sugriva interprets this visual evidence catastrophically. The metaphor Shoka visha arditah (tormented by the poison of grief) is powerful—it suggests that the pain was physical and paralyzing. This reaction proves his love for Vali; he didn't rejoice at the prospect of the throne but was crushed by the supposed loss of his brother.

यह 'गलतफहमी' (Misunderstanding) का क्षण है। 'क्षतज' का अर्थ है रक्त (जो चोट से जन्मा हो)। गुफा से खून की धार बहते देख सुग्रीव ने निष्कर्ष निकाला कि वाली मारा गया है। 'विस्मितो' (हैरान) और 'शोक विष अर्दितः' (शोक रूपी विष से पीड़ित) सुग्रीव की मानसिक स्थिति का वर्णन करते हैं। उन्होंने यह नहीं सोचा कि वाली ने दानव को मारा होगा, संभवतः इसलिए क्योंकि खून की मात्रा बहुत अधिक थी या राक्षस मायावी था। यह सुग्रीव का डर था जिसने उन्हें गलत निष्कर्ष पर पहुँचाया, न कि द्वेष।
