Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वचिताः पर्वताः सर्वे वनानि गहनानि च ।
निम्नगाः सागर अन्ताः च सर्वे जनपदाः तथा ॥४-४७-११॥
vicitāḥ parvatāḥ sarve vanāni gahanāni ca । nimnagāḥ sāgara antāḥ ca sarve janapadāḥ tathā ॥4-47-11॥
Translation
(They said) "We have searched all the mountains, deep forests, rivers, ocean limits, and all the inhabited countries."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(उन्होंने कहा) "हमने सभी पर्वतों, घने वनों, नदियों, सागर के तटों और सभी जनपदों (देशों) को खोज लिया है।"
English Commentary
The commanders present their unified report. They list the topographical features searched to prove their diligence: mountains, dense forests, rivers, and even the "ends of the ocean" (sagara antah), implying the coastlines. The inclusion of Janapadah (inhabited countries/societies) confirms that the search was not limited to the wild. They are essentially saying, "If she were in the East, West, or North, we would have found her." This declaration closes the chapter on these three directions, leaving them fully explored and cleared of suspicion.

वानर अपनी सफाई (debriefing) दे रहे हैं। वे गिनाते हैं कि उन्होंने क्या-क्या खोजा—पर्वत, घने वन ('गहनानि'), नदियाँ ('निम्नगाः'), और समुद्र के छोर तक ('सागर अन्ताः')। उन्होंने मानव बस्तियों ('जनपदाः') को भी नहीं छोड़ा। यह सूची यह सिद्ध करने के लिए है कि उनकी असफलता प्रयास की कमी के कारण नहीं है। उन्होंने प्रकृति और सभ्यता दोनों को छान मारा। 'सागर अन्ताः' विशेष रूप से महत्वपूर्ण है, क्योंकि यह बताता है कि वे भूमि की सीमा तक गए थे और उसके आगे वे नहीं जा सके (या वहां कुछ नहीं मिला)।
