दिशम् अपि उत्तराम् सर्वाम् विविच्य स महाकपिः ।
आगतः सह सैन्यena वीरः शतबलिः तदा ॥४-४७-८॥
diśam api uttarām sarvām vivicya sa mahākapiḥ । āgataḥ saha sainyena vīraḥ śatabaliḥ tadā ॥4-47-8॥
Translation
Similarly, having thoroughly searched the entire northern direction, the heroic great monkey Shatabali returned with his army.

उसी प्रकार समस्त उत्तर दिशा को छानकर, वीर महाकपि शतबलि भी अपनी सेना के साथ वापस आ गए।
English Commentary
Next is the report from the North. Shatabali, the commander assigned to this sector, returns with his army. The use of vivicya implies a discriminating or thorough search, sifting through the landscape. The North, traditionally associated with the Himalayas and difficult terrains, yielded nothing. Shatabali is described as Vira (heroic), emphasizing that the failure was not due to lack of valor. With the East and North cleared, the narrative tension builds towards the remaining directions.

इसके बाद उत्तर दिशा का परिणाम आता है। उत्तर दिशा का दायित्व 'शतबलि' पर था। उन्होंने 'सर्वाम्' (पूरी) दिशा को छान मारा ('विविच्य')। शतबलि भी अपनी पूरी सेना के साथ लौटे। उत्तर दिशा कुरु प्रदेश और हिमालय जैसे कठिन क्षेत्रों के लिए जानी जाती है। शतबलि की वापसी यह पुष्टि करती है कि रावण उत्तर की ओर भी नहीं गया था। धीरे-धीरे आशा की किरणें संकुचित होती जा रही हैं। यहाँ भी कवि ने शतबलि को 'वीर' और 'महाकपि' कहा है, जो यह दर्शाता है कि प्रयास में कोई कमी नहीं थी।
