प्रभवाणि नदीनाम् च विचिन्वन्ति समाहिताः ।
तत्र च अपि महात्मानो न अपश्यन् जनक आत्मजाम् ॥ ॥४-४८-१६॥
prabhavāṇi nadīnām ca vicinvanti samāhitāḥ |
tatra ca api mahātmāno na apaśyan janaka ātmajām ॥4-48-16॥
Translation
...and the sources of rivers, searching with focused minds. Yet, even there, those great souls did not see Janaka's daughter (Sita).

...और नदियों के उद्गम स्थानों को एकाग्रचित्त होकर ढूंढा। किन्तु वहां भी उन महात्माओं ने जनकनन्दिनी सीता को नहीं देखा।
English Commentary
The search extends to the sources of rivers, usually secluded and hidden spots. The term 'Samahitah' indicates their intense focus and dedication; they are leaving no stone unturned. However, the verse concludes with failure—they do not find Sita. Referring to them as 'Mahatmanah' (great souls) acknowledges their noble effort despite the lack of success. This builds tension in the narrative as the deadline set by Sugriva approaches.

वानरों ने नदियों के उद्गम स्थलों (प्रभवाणि) को भी नहीं छोड़ा। 'समाहिताः' शब्द बताता है कि वे बहुत ध्यान और एकाग्रता से खोज रहे थे, केवल खानापूर्ति नहीं कर रहे थे। इतनी गहन खोज के बावजूद, परिणाम निराशाजनक रहा। उन्हें सीता (जनक आत्मजाम्) कहीं नहीं मिलीं। यह श्लोक खोज अभियान की हताशा को बढ़ाता है, जो आगे चलकर उन्हें और अधिक खतरनाक स्थानों (जैसे ऋक्षबिल गुफा) की ओर ले जाएगा।
