व्यचिन्वन् प्रायशः तत्र सर्वम् तत् गिरि गह्वरम् ।
विचितम् तु ततः सर्वम् सर्वे ते कानन ओकसः ॥ ॥४-४८-२३॥
vyacinvan prāyaśaḥ tatra sarvam tat giri gahvaram |
vicitam tu tataḥ sarvam sarve te kānana okasaḥ ॥4-48-23॥
Translation
Those forest-dwelling Vanaras searched that mountain cave almost entirely. Thereafter, they thoroughly searched the whole of that forest as well.

उन सभी वनवासी वानरों ने उस पर्वतीय गुफा को प्रायः पूरी तरह छान मारा। उसके बाद उन्होंने वहां के पूरे वन को भी अच्छी तरह खोज लिया।
English Commentary
After dispatching the demon, the Vanaras did not rest. They resumed their search with renewed vigor, scouring the mountain cave and the surrounding forest. The term 'Prayashah' implies a comprehensive search where little was left to chance. Despite their natural expertise as 'Kanana okasah' (dwellers of the forest), the object of their quest remained elusive. This verse serves as a bridge between the combat sequence and the returning sense of despair caused by the fruitless search.

असुर के वध के बाद, वानरों ने यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कि सीता वहां छिपी न हों, उस गुफा और आस-पास के क्षेत्र की फिर से गहन तलाशी ली। 'प्रायशः' शब्द सूचित करता है कि उन्होंने अपनी क्षमतानुसार हर संभव प्रयास किया। 'कानन ओकसः' (वन में रहने वाले) विशेषण उनके प्राकृतिक आवास और खोज कौशल को दर्शाता है, फिर भी उन्हें सफलता नहीं मिल रही है। यह श्लोक उनकी निष्ठा को रेखांकित करता है कि असुर के भय से मुक्त होकर वे तुरंत अपने मुख्य कार्य में लग गए।
