Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अन्यत् एव अपरम् घोरम् विविशुर् गिरि गह्वरम् ।
ते विचित्य पुनः खिन्ना विनिष्पत्य समागताः ।
एकांते वृक्ष मूले तु निषेदुर् दीन मानसाः ॥ ॥४-४८-२४॥
anyat eva aparam ghoram viviśur giri gahvaram |
te vicitya punaḥ khinnā viniṣpatya samāgatāḥ |
ekāṃte vṛkṣa mūle tu niṣedur dīna mānasāḥ ॥4-48-24॥
Translation
They entered yet another terrible mountain cave. Having searched it and becoming exhausted again, they came out and gathered together. Then, with dejected minds, they sat down in a secluded spot at the root of a tree.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे एक दूसरी भयानक पर्वतीय गुफा में भी प्रविष्ट हुए। वहां खोजकर और पुनः खिन्न (दुखी/थके हुए) होकर वे बाहर निकले और एक साथ एकत्र हुए। फिर एकांत में एक वृक्ष की जड़ के पास उदास मन से बैठ गए।
English Commentary
This verse marks the end of Sarga 48 with a sombre tone. The cycle of entering terrible caves, searching, and exiting empty-handed has drained the Vanaras physically and emotionally. The transition from the adrenaline of battle to the fatigue of failure is sharp. Gathering 'Dina manasah' (with dejected minds) under a tree symbolizes a pause in action, creating a moment of vulnerability that sets the stage for Angada to step up as a leader in the next canto to address their crushing morale.

यह श्लोक सर्ग 48 का समापन करता है और वानरों की मानसिक स्थिति का चित्रण करता है। एक के बाद एक भयानक गुफाओं (घोरम् गिरि गह्वरम्) में भटकने और खाली हाथ लौटने से वे शारीरिक रूप से 'खिन्न' (थके हुए) और मानसिक रूप से 'दीन मानसाः' (उदास) हो गए हैं। असुर पर विजय का उत्साह अब हताशा में बदल गया है। एक वृक्ष के नीचे उनका सामूहिक रूप से बैठना यह दर्शाता है कि अब वे दिशाहीन महसूस कर रहे हैं और उन्हें नेतृत्व की आवश्यकता है।
