Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुग्रीवः क्रोधनो राजा तीक्ष्ण दण्डः च वानराः ।
भेतव्यम् तस्य सततम् रामस्य च महात्मनः ॥ ॥४-४९-९॥
sugrīvaḥ krodhano rājā tīkṣṇa daṇḍaḥ ca vānarāḥ |
bhetavyam tasya satatam rāmasya ca mahātmanaḥ ॥4-49-9॥
Translation
"O Vanaras! King Sugriva is irascible, and his punishment is severe. We should always be afraid of him and of the high-souled Rama."

"हे वानरों! राजा सुग्रीव क्रोधी स्वभाव के हैं और उनका दंड बहुत तीक्ष्ण (कठोर) होता है। हमें उनसे और महात्मा राम से सदा डरना चाहिए।"
English Commentary
Angada pivots back to the stick (after the carrot of success). He explicitly characterizes Sugriva as 'Krodhano' (prone to anger) and 'Tikshna dandah' (wielder of sharp/severe punishment). This implies capital punishment for failure or desertion. Interestingly, he adds that they should also fear Rama. While Rama is 'Mahatmanah' (great-souled), his divine power and the gravity of his mission make him a formidable figure whom one should not disappoint.

प्रेरणा के साथ-साथ अंगद पुनः भय (Fear Motivation) का प्रयोग करते हैं। सुग्रीव 'तीक्ष्ण दण्डः' (कठोर दंड देने वाले) हैं, यह याद दिलाना अनुशासन बनाए रखने के लिए जरूरी है। साथ ही, 'रामस्य च महात्मनः'—राम का भय भी दिखाया गया है। यद्यपि राम दयालु हैं, किन्तु उनका कार्य सिद्ध न होने पर उनका कोप या सुग्रीव के प्रति उनकी नाराजगी वानरों के लिए घातक हो सकती है। यह भय उन्हें बिखरने से रोकता है।
