Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एतत् तु वचनम् श्रुत्वा सुग्रीवस्य सुभाषितम् ।
संप्रहृष्ट मना हस्तम् पीडयामास पाणिना ॥ ॥४-५-१२॥
Etat tu vacanam śrutvā Sugrīvasya subhāṣitam । Samprahṛṣṭa manā hastam pīḍayāmāsa pāṇinā ॥ ॥4-5-12॥
Translation
Hearing these eloquent words of Sugriva, Rama, with a delighted mind, squeezed Sugriva’s hand with his own.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सुग्रीव के इन सुंदर वचनों को सुनकर, प्रसन्न मन वाले श्रीराम ने अपने हाथ से सुग्रीव का हाथ [प्रेमपूर्वक] दबाया।
English Commentary
Rama’s reaction is immediate and enthusiastic. He does not hesitate to accept the hand of the Vanara king. The text notes he was "delighted in mind," indicating that Rama valued this connection on a personal level, not just a strategic one. The action of "squeezing" (pīḍayāmāsa) the hand signifies warmth, strength, and reassurance. It is a firm handshake that conveys protection and solidarity. In this moment, the bond is physically sealed, bridging the gap between Ayodhya’s royalty and Kishkindha’s forest dwellers.

श्रीराम ने रंच मात्र भी संकोच नहीं किया। "संप्रहृष्ट मना" (प्रसन्न मन से) दर्शाता है कि राम को इस मित्रता में कोई राजनीति नहीं, बल्कि आनंद मिल रहा था। उन्होंने सुग्रीव का हाथ केवल पकड़ा नहीं, बल्कि "पीडयामास" (दबाया)—यह शब्द यहाँ दृढ़ता और गर्मजोशी का प्रतीक है। यह स्पर्श मूक संचार था जिसने सुग्रीव को आश्वस्त कर दिया कि राम अब उनके रक्षक और सखा हैं। एक वनवासी और एक राजकुमार के बीच का यह स्पर्श सामाजिक भेदों को मिटाने वाला था।
