तापसीम् नियत आहाराम् ज्वलंतीम् इव तेजसा ।
विस्मिता हरयः तत्र व्यवतिष्टन्त सर्वशः ।
प्रपच्छ हनुमान् तत्र का असि त्वम् कस्य वा बिलम् ॥ ॥४-५०-४०॥
tāpasīm niyata āhārām jvalaṃtīm iva tejasā । vismitā harayaḥ tatra vyavatiṣṭanta sarvaśaḥ । prapaccha hanumān tatra kā asi tvam kasya vā bilam ॥ ॥4-50-40॥
Translation
That ascetic woman, restricted in diet, was blazing like fire with her spiritual luster. The monkeys, struck with amazement, stood around her. Then Hanuman asked, "Who are you, and to whom does this cave belong?"

वह तपस्विनी, जो मिताहारी थी, अपने तपोबल से प्रज्वलित अग्नि के समान चमक रही थी। उसे देखकर सभी वानर आश्चर्यचकित होकर चारों ओर खड़े हो गए। तब हनुमान जी ने उनसे पूछा—"आप कौन हैं और यह गुफा किसकी है?"
English Commentary
Swayamprabha is described as radiant with the fire of her penance (tejas), a result of her disciplined diet and austerity. The Vanaras are stunned (vismita) to find such a holy presence in a subterranean realm. Hanuman takes the lead, displaying his characteristic leadership and presence of mind. Instead of reacting with aggression or fear, he engages in dialogue. His inquiry focuses on identity and ownership ("Who are you?" and "Whose cave is this?"), aiming to assess whether she is a friend or foe and to understand the nature of their strange surroundings.
