Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अस्मिन् निपतिताः सर्वे अपि अथ कार्य त्वरान्विताः ।
ततो गाढम् निपतिता गृह्य हस्तौ परस्परम् ॥ ॥४-५२-१४॥
asmin nipatitāḥ sarve api atha kārya tvarānvitāḥ । tato gāḍham nipatitā gṛhya hastau parasparam ॥ ॥4-52-14॥
Translation
Then, all of us, driven by the urgency of our mission, fell (entered) into this [cave]. Thereafter, holding each other's hands, we plunged deep into it.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर कार्य की शीघ्रता (प्यास बुझाने और सीता की खोज) से युक्त हम सभी इसमें (गुफा में) कूद पड़े। तत्पश्चात घोर अन्धकार में एक-दूसरे का हाथ पकड़कर हम और भी गहराई में उतरते गए।
English Commentary
This verse vividly portrays the desperation and solidarity of the Vanaras. The phrase kārya tvarānvitāḥ (hurried by the task) emphasizes that their reckless entry was driven by duty and the urgent need to preserve their lives to fulfill that duty. The imagery of holding hands (gṛhya hastau parasparam) highlights the absolute darkness of the cave and the psychological need for connection in the face of the unknown. It illustrates that despite being powerful celestial beings, in this alien environment, they relied on basic camaraderie and unity to navigate the depths (gāḍham).

यह श्लोक वानरों की विवशता और आपसी सहयोग का मार्मिक चित्रण है। 'कार्य त्वरान्विताः' पद दर्शाता है कि उनके मन में अपने मिशन (सीता की खोज) के प्रति कितनी व्यग्रता थी; वे समय नष्ट नहीं करना चाहते थे। गुफा का अन्धकार इतना सघन था कि उन्हें दृश्यता के अभाव में स्पर्श का सहारा लेना पड़ा—'गृह्य हस्तौ परस्परम्'। यह शारीरिक संपर्क केवल मार्ग खोजने के लिए नहीं, अपितु भय और अनिश्चितता के वातावरण में एक-दूसरे को मानसिक संबल देने के लिए भी था। 'निपतिताः' शब्द का उपयोग यह बताता है कि यह प्रवेश सहज नहीं था, अपितु एक प्रकार का पतन या जोखिम भरा अवतरण था।
