Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इदम् प्रविष्टाः सहसा बिलम् तिमिर संवृतम् ।
एतत् नः कार्यम् एतेन कृत्येन वयम् आगताः ॥ ॥४-५२-१५॥
idam praviṣṭāḥ sahasā bilam timira saṃvṛtam । etat naḥ kāryam etena kṛtyena vayam āgatāḥ ॥ ॥4-52-15॥
Translation
We suddenly entered this hole enveloped in darkness. This is our business; for this purpose, we have come.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हम सहसा इस अन्धकार से ढके हुए बिल में प्रविष्ट हुए। यही हमारा कार्य (उद्देश्य) है और इसी प्रयोजन से हम यहाँ आए हैं।
English Commentary
Hanuman summarizes their intrusion with honesty. He describes the environment as timira saṃvṛtam (shrouded in darkness) to explain their disorientation. The statement "This is our business" (etat naḥ kāryam) serves as a declaration of intent. He assures Swayamprabha that their violation of her sanctuary was incidental to their survival needs and their larger mission. By defining their purpose, Hanuman removes any suspicion that they might be thieves or aggressors, framing their presence as a consequence of unavoidable necessity (survival) required to fulfill a divine mandate.

हनुमान यहाँ अपनी बात का उपसंहार करते हुए स्थिति स्पष्ट करते हैं। 'तिमिर संवृतम्' (अंधकार से घिरा हुआ) यह बताता है कि वे अनजाने में यहाँ आए। श्लोक का उत्तरार्ध 'एतत् नः कार्यम्...' अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। हनुमान यह स्पष्ट कर रहे हैं कि उनका यहाँ आना किसी आक्रमण या चोरी के उद्देश्य से नहीं था, अपितु केवल जीवन रक्षा (जल और भोजन प्राप्ति) और तदनंतर अपने मुख्य 'कृत्य' (राम का कार्य) को सिद्ध करने के लिए था। वे अपनी स्थिति को पारदर्शी रखते हुए तपस्विनी को आश्वस्त कर रहे हैं कि वे शत्रु नहीं, अपितु परिस्थितियों के मारे हुए पथिक हैं।
