Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न हि निष्क्रमितुम् शक्यम् अनिमीलित लोचनैः ।
ततो निमीलिताः सर्वे सुकुमार अंगुलैः करैः ॥ ॥४-५२-२८॥
na hi niṣkramitum śakyam animīlita locanaiḥ । tato nimīlitāḥ sarve sukumāra aṃgulaiḥ karaiḥ ॥ ॥4-52-28॥
Translation
"For indeed, it is not possible to exit with unclosed eyes." Then, all of them covered their eyes with their hands having soft fingers.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"क्योंकि आँखें बंद किए बिना (यहाँ से) निकलना संभव नहीं है।" तब उन सभी ने (अपनी) कोमल उंगलियों वाले हाथों से अपनी आँखों को ढक लिया।
English Commentary
The ascetic reiterates that the physics of this magic requires unseeing eyes. The description of the monkeys' hands as having sukumāra (delicate/soft) fingers is poetic and possibly ironic, contrasting their immense destructive power with this moment of gentle submission. It might also suggest that despite their rugged nature, they are capable of disciplined, delicate actions when required. Their immediate compliance shows their desperation to leave and their absolute trust in Swayamprabha’s word.

स्वयंप्रभा शर्त का कारण स्पष्ट करती हैं कि खुली आँखों से निकलना 'न शक्यम्' (संभव नहीं) है। वानरों की प्रतिक्रिया तत्काल और आज्ञाकारी होती है। यहाँ वाल्मीकि जी ने वानरों के हाथों के लिए 'सुकुमार अंगुलैः' (कोमल उंगलियों वाले) विशेषण का प्रयोग किया है। यह एक रोचक विरोधाभास है—पर्वतों को उखाड़ने वाले वानरों की उंगलियां कोमल बताई गई हैं, जो शायद उनकी वर्तमान विनीत और शरणार्थी मुद्रा को दर्शाता है। उन्होंने अपने हाथों से अपनी दृष्टि को स्वेच्छा से अवरुद्ध कर लिया, जो पूर्ण समर्पण का प्रतीक है।
