अगत्य चरिताम् आशाम् दक्षिणाम् यम रक्षिताम् ।
सह एभिः वानरैः मुख्यैः अंगद प्रमुखैः वयम् ॥ ॥४-५२-७॥
agastya caritām āśām dakṣiṇām yama rakṣitām । saha ebhiḥ vānaraiḥ mukhyaiḥ aṅgada pramukhaiḥ vayam ॥ ॥4-52-7॥
Translation
"Together with these principal Vanaras headed by Angada, we (have come) to the southern direction, frequented by Agastya and guarded by Yama."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हम इन मुख्य वानरों और (युवराज) अंगद के नेतृत्व में, अगस्त्य मुनि द्वारा सेवित और यमराज द्वारा रक्षित दक्षिण दिशा की ओर (आए हैं)।"
English Commentary
The southern direction is described with mythological weight. It is the realm of Agastya (the sage who tamed the Vindhyas and demons) and Yama (God of Death), signifying a perilous and frightening path. Mentioning Angada as the 'pramukha' (leader) acknowledges hierarchy. Even though Hanuman is the spokesperson, he ensures credit and authority are attributed to the Crown Prince Angada, maintaining protocol even in a conversation with an ascetic.

दक्षिण दिशा को 'अगस्त्य चरिताम्' (अगस्त्य द्वारा सेवित) और 'यम रक्षिताम्' (यमराज द्वारा रक्षित) कहा गया है। अगस्त्य मुनि ने विंध्याचल को झुकाकर दक्षिण का मार्ग खोला था और वातापि जैसे राक्षसों का नाश किया था। यम मृत्यु के देवता हैं। यह विशेषण दक्षिण दिशा की भयंकरता और दुर्गमता को दर्शाते हैं। हनुमान जी बताते हैं कि इस कठिन मार्ग पर अंगद उनके नेता ('प्रमुख') हैं, यद्यपि वार्तालाप हनुमान कर रहे हैं। यह उनकी मर्यादा है।
