ततः तान् कपि वृद्धान् च शिष्टान् चैव वनौकसः ।
वाचा मधुरया अभाष्य यथावत् अनुमान्य च ॥४-५३-६॥
tataḥ tān kapi vṛddhān ca śiṣṭān caiva vanaukasaḥ |
vācā madhurayā ābhāṣya yathāvat anumānya ca ॥4-53-6॥
Translation
Thereafter, having honored the elders among the monkeys and the other disciplined forest-dwellers according to protocol, and having addressed them with sweet words, Angada spoke.

तदनंतर, उन वानर-वृद्धों तथा अन्य शिष्ट वनवासियों को यथोचित सम्मान देकर और उन्हें सांत्वना प्रदान कर, युवराज अंगद ने मधुर वाणी में बोलना आरंभ किया।
English Commentary
This verse underscores Angada's exemplary leadership and adherence to etiquette even amidst a crisis. Despite the overwhelming fear of failure, Angada does not abandon protocol. He specifically acknowledges the kapi vṛddhān (elders like Jambavan) and the śiṣṭān (distinguished/disciplined ones), ensuring that the hierarchy is respected before he delivers his message. The use of madhurayā vācā (sweet speech) is strategic; purely authoritative speech might have caused panic, but gentle speech fosters unity and attention. It demonstrates that Angada possesses the diplomatic acumen required of a Crown Prince (Yuvaraja), stabilizing his troops emotionally before addressing the grim logistical reality of their situation.

घोर संकट के समय में भी अंगद के राजोचित गुणों और शिष्टाचार का यहाँ सुंदर चित्रण है। यद्यपि वे स्वयं भी भयभीत और निराश हैं, परंतु नेतृत्व की भूमिका में होने के कारण वे मर्यादा का त्याग नहीं करते। 'कपि वृद्धान्' (जैसे जाम्बवान आदि) और 'शिष्टान्' (अनुशासित सैनिकों) का उल्लेख यह दर्शाता है कि अंगद अपनी सेना के पदानुक्रम (hierarchy) का सम्मान करते हैं। भय के वातावरण में कठोर वचनों के स्थान पर 'मधुर वाणी' का प्रयोग कूटनीतिक सूझबूझ का परिचायक है। एक नेता के रूप में अंगद पहले अपनी टीम को भावनात्मक रूप से स्थिर करते हैं, उनका सम्मान करते हैं, ताकि वे उनकी बात ध्यानपूर्वक सुन सकें। यह श्लोक अंगद की परिपक्वता को सिद्ध करता है।
