स तु सिंह ऋषभ स्कंधः पीन आयत भुजः कपिः ।
युवराजो महाप्राज्ञ अंगदो वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ॥४-५३-७॥
sa tu siṃha ṛṣabha skandhaḥ pīna āyata bhujaḥ kapiḥ |
yuvarājo mahāprājña aṅgado vākyam abravīt ॥4-53-7॥
Translation
That monkey, the Crown Prince Angada, possessed of shoulders like a lion or a bull, having muscular and long arms, and being extremely wise, spoke these words.

सिंह और वृषभ के समान पुष्ट कंधों वाले, मांसल और लंबी भुजाओं वाले, महाबुद्धिमान युवराज कपि अंगद ने (निम्नलिखित) वचन कहे।
English Commentary
Valmiki provides a vivid physical and intellectual profile of Angada to lend weight to the speech that follows. The descriptions siṃha ṛṣabha skandhaḥ (shoulders like a lion or bull) and pīna āyata bhujaḥ (muscular, long arms) signify his martial prowess and warrior lineage, indicating that his subsequent despair is not born of physical weakness or cowardice. However, the epithet mahāprājña (of great wisdom) is crucial here. It suggests that Angada fully comprehends the complexities of statecraft, duty, and the consequences of failure. He is depicted not just as a strong fighter, but as a thinking leader who is about to articulate the gravity of their predicament to his followers.
