बुद्ध्या हि अष्ट अंगया युक्तम् चतुर् बल समन्वितम् ।
चतुर् दश गुणम् मेने हनुमान् वालिनः सुतम् ॥ ॥४-५४-२॥
buddhyā hi aṣṭa aṃgayā yuktam catur bala samanvitam । catur daśa guṇam mene hanumān vālinaḥ sutam ॥ ॥4-54-2॥
Translation
Hanuman considered Vali's son, Angada, to be endowed with the eight-fold intelligence, possessed of four-fold strength, and filled with fourteen kingly qualities.

हनुमान जी ने बालि पुत्र अंगद को बुद्धि के आठ अंगों से युक्त, चार प्रकार के बलों से संपन्न और चौदह गुणों से परिपूर्ण माना।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Hanuman’s proficiency in assessing character and potential threats. He evaluates Angada not merely as a distraught prince, but as a fully capable leader possessing all the requisites of sovereignty. The "eight-fold intelligence" refers to qualities like listening, grasping, remembering, inferring, etc., essential for a ruler. The "four-fold strength" usually implies the four limbs of an army or diplomatic expedients. The "fourteen qualities" refer to the regal virtues defined in political treatises (Niti Shastra). Hanuman realizes that Angada is not making empty threats; he possesses the intellect, military potential, and personal virtues to actually establish a rival power center. This accurate assessment drives Hanuman to take immediate diplomatic action to neutralize the potential rebellion before it solidifies.

यहाँ हनुमान जी की सूक्ष्म दृष्टि और नीति-निपुणता का परिचय मिलता है। वे अंगद को केवल एक बालक या युवराज के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि एक सक्षम प्रतिद्वंद्वी के रूप में आंक रहे हैं। 'अष्ट अंगया बुद्ध्या' का अर्थ बुद्धि के आठ अंगों (शुश्रूषा, श्रवण, ग्रहण, धारण, ऊह, अपोह, अर्थ-विज्ञान और तत्त्व-ज्ञान) से है। 'चतुर् बल' का अर्थ साम, दाम, दंड और भेद या हस्ति, अश्व, रथ और पैदल सेना का बल हो सकता है। 'चतुर्दश गुण' राजा के वे गुण हैं जो देश-काल आदि के ज्ञान से सम्बंधित हैं। हनुमान जी समझते हैं कि अंगद में वे सभी क्षमताएं हैं जो एक सफल विद्रोह या स्वतंत्र राज्य की स्थापना के लिए आवश्यक हैं। इसी क्षमता को देखकर हनुमान जी चिंतित हैं कि यदि अंगद की महत्वाकांक्षा बढ़ी, तो यह सुग्रीव और राम-काज दोनों के लिए हानिकारक होगा।
