श्रुत्वा हनुमतो वाक्यम् प्रश्रितम् धर्म संहितम् ।
स्वामि सत्कार संयुक्तम् अंगदो वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥४-५५-१॥
Śrutvā hanumato vākyam praśritam dharma saṃhitam । Svāmi satkāra saṃyuktam aṅgado vākyam abravīt ॥ ॥4-55-1॥
Translation
Having heard Hanuman's words, which were polite, consistent with righteousness, and full of respect for the master (Sugriva), Angada spoke the following words.

हनुमान जी के उस विनम्र, धर्मयुक्त और स्वामी (सुग्रीव) के आदर से युक्त वचन को सुनकर अंगद ने इस प्रकार उत्तर दिया।
English Commentary

यह श्लोक एक संक्रमण (transition) बिंदु है। वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ हनुमान के वक्तव्य की गुणवत्ता को रेखांकित कर रहे हैं—वह 'प्रश्रितम्' (विनम्र) और 'धर्म संहितम्' (धर्म के अनुकूल) था। हनुमान ने जो भी कहा, वह स्वामी सुग्रीव के पक्ष में और राज्य की एकता के लिए था। किन्तु, अंगद की प्रतिक्रिया यह दर्शाती है कि तर्क कितना भी सही क्यों न हो, यदि मन में अविश्वास और कड़वाहट गहरी हो, तो उसे स्वीकारना कठिन होता है। अंगद अब हनुमान के तर्कों का खंडन अपने दृष्टिकोण से करेंगे।
