Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विनष्टम् माम् इह श्रुत्वा व्यक्तम् हास्यति जीवितम् ।
एतावत् उक्त्वा वचनम् वृद्धान् तान् अभिवाद्य च ॥ ॥४-५५-१६॥
Vinaṣṭam mām iha śrutvā vyaktam hāsyati jīvitam । Etāvat uktvā vacanam vṛddhān tān abhivādya ca ॥ ॥4-55-16॥
Translation
"Hearing that I have perished here, she (my mother Tara) will certainly give up her life." Having spoken these words, and after offering salutations to those elderly Vanaras, (Angada fell silent).
हिंदी अनुवाद
"मेरे मरने की खबर सुनकर वह (मेरी माता तारा) निश्चित ही अपने प्राण त्याग देगी।" इतना कहकर और उन बुजुर्ग वानरों को प्रणाम करके (अंगद चुप हो गए)।
English Commentary
This verse marks the conclusion of Angada's lament. The prediction that his mother will die of grief (hāsyati jīvitam) highlights the ripple effect of his tragedy. The act of bowing to the elders (vṛddhān... abhivādya) signifies a formal farewell. Despite his mental anguish, Angada maintains the decorum of a prince, showing respect to the senior commanders like Hanuman and Jambavan. The commentary notes the poignant juxtaposition of youth and death; a capable warrior bowing out of life not due to defeat in battle, but due to political despair and filial helplessness.

यह श्लोक अंगद के संवाद का समापन है। माता की मृत्यु की आशंका व्यक्त करना उनकी हताशा का चरम बिंदु है। इसके बाद 'वृद्धान् तान् अभिवाद्य' (बुजुर्गों को प्रणाम करना) उनकी शिष्टता और अंतिम विदाई को दर्शाता है। अंगद जानते हैं कि वे अब एक ऐसी यात्रा पर जा रहे हैं जहाँ से वापसी नहीं है, इसलिए वे अपने से बड़ों का आशीर्वाद और क्षमा मांगते हैं। यह दृश्य अत्यंत करुण है, जहाँ एक युवा राजकुमार, जो बलवान और योग्य है, परिस्थितियों के दबाव में आत्महत्या जैसा कदम उठाने जा रहा है, फिर भी वह अपने संस्कारों को नहीं भूला है।
