नयनेभ्यः प्रमुमुचुः उष्णम् वै वारि दुःखिताः ।
सुग्रीवम् चैव निन्दन्तः प्रशंसन्तः च वालिनम् ॥ ॥४-५५-१८॥
Nayanebhyaḥ pramumucuḥ uṣṇam vai vāri duḥkhitāḥ । Sugrīvam caiva nindantaḥ praśaṃsantaḥ ca vālinam ॥ ॥4-55-18॥
Translation
Overcome with grief, they shed hot tears from their eyes. They began to reproach Sugriva and praise Vali.

वे दुखी वानर अपनी आँखों से गरम आँसू बहाने लगे। वे सुग्रीव की निंदा करने लगे और (मृत राजा) बाली की प्रशंसा करने लगे।
English Commentary
This verse captures a significant shift in political allegiance driven by trauma. The shedding of "hot tears" (uṣṇam vāri) signifies intense internal burning/grief. Faced with death, the Vanaras turn against the incumbent King Sugriva (nindantaḥ - blaming/reviling) and romanticize the reign of the late King Vali (praśaṃsantaḥ - praising). The commentary observes that fear makes the memory of the protector (Vali) sweeter and the reality of the current ruler (Sugriva) bitter. It highlights the fragility of Sugriva's authority over Vali's loyalists.

यह श्लोक किष्किन्धा की राजनीति में आए भूचाल को दर्शाता है। 'उष्णम् वारि' (गरम आँसू) गहरे विषाद का सूचक है। संकट के समय जनता अक्सर वर्तमान शासक को कोसती है और पुराने शासक को याद करती है। वानर सुग्रीव को क्रूर मानकर उनकी 'निंदा' कर रहे हैं और बाली, जो शक्तिशाली और रक्षक था, उसकी 'प्रशंसा' कर रहे हैं। यह सुग्रीव के लिए एक बड़ा राजनीतिक संकट है, क्योंकि उनकी सेना की वफादारी बदल रही है। भय के कारण वानरों को बाली का शासन स्वर्णयुग लगने लगा है।
