सांपातिः नाम नाम्ना तु चिर जीवी विहंगमः ।
भ्राता जटायुषः श्रीमान् प्रख्यात बल पौरुषः ॥ ॥४-५६-२॥
Saṃpātiḥ nāma nāmnā tu cira jīvī vihaṃgamaḥ । Bhrātā jaṭāyuṣaḥ śrīmān prakhyāta bala pauruṣaḥ ॥ ॥4-56-2॥
Translation
His name was Sampati; he was a long-lived bird. He was the brother of Jatayu, glorious, and renowned for his strength and valor.

उसका नाम संपाति था, वह बहुत लंबी आयु वाला (चिरजीवी) पक्षी था। वह जटायु का बड़ा भाई था, श्रीमान (शोभायमान) था और उसका बल व पराक्रम विख्यात था।
English Commentary
This verse provides the bio-data of the newcomer. He is identified as Sampati. Key attributes are listed: cira jīvī (long-lived/ancient), establishing him as a repository of knowledge; and crucially, bhrātā jaṭāyuṣaḥ (brother of Jatayu). This familial link is the pivot upon which the rest of the search for Sita turns. The commentary points out that while the audience knows this connection is positive, the characters (Vanaras) do not know it yet, maintaining the dramatic tension.
