कंदरात् अभिनिष्क्रम्य स विन्ध्यस्य महागिरेः ।
उपविष्टान् हरीन् दृष्ट्वा हृष्टात्मा गिरम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥४-५६-३॥
Kandarāt abhiniṣkramya sa vindhyasya mahāgireḥ । Upaviṣṭān harīn dṛṣṭvā hṛṣṭātmā giram abravīt ॥ ॥4-56-3॥
Translation
Emerging from a cave in the great Vindhya mountain and seeing the monkeys seated there, he became delighted at heart and spoke these words.

विन्ध्य महापर्वत की कंदरा (गुफा) से बाहर निकलकर, वहां बैठे हुए वानरों को देखकर वह मन ही मन बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ और यह वचन बोला।
English Commentary
Sampati emerges from his cave in the Vindhya range. His reaction to the scene is hṛṣṭātmā (delighted soul). From a predatory perspective, a group of monkeys resigning themselves to death looks like an effortless banquet. The commentary highlights the dark humor and dramatic irony: the Vanaras are mourning their lives, while the observer is celebrating their impending deaths as a stroke of luck. This sets the stage for his opening dialogue, which terrifies the monkeys.

संपाति की प्रतिक्रिया वानरों की स्थिति के बिल्कुल विपरीत है। वानर रो रहे हैं, जबकि संपाति 'हृष्टात्मा' (खुश) है। एक गिद्ध के लिए, मरने को तैयार बैठे वानर केवल भोजन का ढेर हैं। वह गुफा से बाहर आया क्योंकि उसने शोर सुना था, लेकिन दृश्य देखकर उसकी भूख जग गई। यह स्थिति की विडंबना (Irony) है—जिसे वानर अपना अंत समझ रहे हैं, संपाति उसे अपना भोज समझ रहा है। उसकी प्रसन्नता वानरों के भय को और बढ़ाएगी।
