यस्य रामः प्रियः पुत्रो ज्येष्ठो गुरु जन प्रियः ।
सूर्य अंशु दग्ध पक्षत्वात् न शक्नोमि विसर्पितुम् ।
इच्छेयम् पर्वतात् अस्मात् अवतर्तुम् अरिन्दमाः ॥ ॥४-५६-२४॥
Yasya rāmaḥ priyaḥ putro jyeṣṭho guru jana priyaḥ । Sūrya aṃśu dagdha pakṣatvāt na śaknomi visarpitum । Iccheyam parvatāt asmāt avatartum arindamāḥ ॥ ॥4-56-24॥
Translation
Whose eldest son is Rama, beloved of the elders. Because my wings were burnt by the sun's rays, I am unable to move about. I wish to descend from this mountain, O tamers of enemies.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिसके (दशरथ के) ज्येष्ठ पुत्र राम हैं, जो बड़ों (गुरुजनों) के प्रिय हैं। सूर्य की किरणों से मेरे पंख जल जाने के कारण मैं चलने-फिरने (उड़ने) में असमर्थ हूँ। हे अरिंदम (शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले) वानरों! मैं इस पर्वत से नीचे उतरना चाहता हूँ।
English Commentary
Sampati explicitly states the cause of his immobility: his wings were burnt by the sun (surya amshu dagdha). This foreshadows his own backstory which he will later narrate. He identifies Rama as the beloved eldest son of Dasharatha, showing he has pieced together some context. Addressing the monkeys as arindamah (subduers of enemies) is a strategic honorific, acknowledging their power while admitting his own helplessness. He reiterates his request to be taken down, setting the physical scene for the upcoming dialogue where the mystery of Sita's location is solved.

इस श्लोक में संपाती अपनी कथा का संकेत देता है—'सूर्य अंशु दग्ध पक्षत्वात्' (सूर्य की किरणों से पंख जल जाने के कारण)। यह उसकी अपंगता का कारण है। वह राम को 'गुरु जन प्रियः' (गुरुजनों/बड़ों का प्रिय) विशेषण देता है, जो राम के चरित्र की महिमा है। वानरों को 'अरिन्दमाः' (शत्रु-दमनकारी) कहकर वह उन्हें आश्वस्त करता है कि वह उनसे डर नहीं रहा, बल्कि उनका सम्मान कर रहा है और सहायता मांग रहा है। वह अपनी लाचारी बताकर वानरों की दया का पात्र बनना चाहता है ताकि वे उसे नीचे उतारें और वह पूरी बात सुन सके।
