Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् राम प्रयुक्ताः तु मार्गमाणाः ततः ततः ।
वैदेहीम् न अधिगच्छामो रात्रौ सूर्य प्रभाम् इव ॥ ॥४-५७-१५॥
Evam rāma prayuktāḥ tu mārgamāṇāḥ tataḥ tataḥ । Vaidehīm na adhigacchāmo rātrau sūrya prabhām iva ॥ ॥4-57-15॥
Translation
Thus appointed by Rama, searching here and there, we do not find Vaidehi, just as one cannot find the sunlight at night.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इस प्रकार राम के कार्य में नियुक्त होकर, हम यहाँ-वहाँ (सब जगह) खोज रहे हैं, किन्तु हम वैदेही (सीता) को उसी प्रकार नहीं पा रहे हैं जैसे रात्रि में सूर्य की प्रभा (रोशनी) को नहीं पाया जा सकता।
English Commentary
Angada expresses the despair of their mission. Despite being commissioned by Rama (Rama prayuktah) and searching exhaustively (tatah tatah), they have failed. The simile used is poetic and poignant: they cannot find Sita just as one cannot find surya prabham (sunlight) at night. This comparison suggests that without a clue, their search is futile and against the laws of nature. It conveys a sense of hopelessness, setting the stage for Sampati to become the "sun" that illuminates their darkness with information.

यहाँ अंगद अपनी हताशा व्यक्त करते हैं। 'राम प्रयुक्ताः' (राम द्वारा नियुक्त) होने के बावजूद, उन्हें सफलता नहीं मिल रही है। 'ततः ततः' (इधर-उधर) भटकने के बाद भी परिणाम शून्य है। उपमा अलंकार का सुंदर प्रयोग है—'रात्रौ सूर्य प्रभाम् इव' (जैसे रात में सूरज की रोशनी)। जैसे रात में सूर्य का मिलना असंभव है, वैसे ही उन्हें सीता का मिलना असंभव प्रतीत हो रहा है। यह उपमा उनकी निराशा की गहराई को दर्शाती है और संपाती से सहायता की मूक पुकार है।
