Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ते वयम् दण्दकारण्यम् विचित्य सुसमाहिताः ।
अज्ञानात् तु प्रविष्टाः स्म धरण्या विवृतम् बिलम् ॥ ॥४-५७-१६॥
Te vayam daṇdakāraṇyam vicitya susamāhitāḥ । Ajñānāt tu praviṣṭāḥ sma dharaṇyā vivṛtam bilam ॥ ॥4-57-16॥
Translation
We, having searched the Dandaka forest with great attention, entered a hole (cave) covered by the earth out of ignorance.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हम लोगों ने दंडकारण्य को बहुत ध्यानपूर्वक (सुसमाहिताः) छान मारा। किन्तु अज्ञानवश हम पृथ्वी के अंदर बने हुए एक खुले बिल (गुफा) में प्रवेश कर गए।
English Commentary
Angada explains the logistical reason for their failure and delay. They were diligent (susamahitah) in scanning the Dandaka forest. Their error was unintentional (ajnanat—out of ignorance), leading them into the magic cave (Riksha-bila). This "hole in the earth" became a time trap. By explaining this, Angada defends the Vanaras' competence while admitting their misfortune. It justifies why they are now far from home, past their deadline, and contemplating death, soliciting Sampati's understanding of their plight.

अंगद अपनी देरी और वर्तमान संकट का कारण बताते हैं। उन्होंने दंडकारण्य में 'सुसमाहिताः' (पूरी एकाग्रता/सावधानी से) खोज की थी। लेकिन 'अज्ञानात्' (अनजाने में) वे ऋक्षबिल (स्वयंप्रभा की गुफा) में घुस गए। 'धरण्या विवृतम् बिलम्' (पृथ्वी में खुला हुआ बिल) एक जाल जैसा था जिसने उनका बहुत समय नष्ट कर दिया। यह श्लोक बताता है कि उनकी निष्ठा में कमी नहीं थी, बल्कि परिस्थितियों और दुर्भाग्य ने उन्हें समय सीमा पार करवा दी, जिसके कारण वे अब मरने के लिए बैठे थे।
