इति उक्तः करुणम् वाक्यम् वानरैः त्यक्त जीवितैः ।
स बाष्पो वानरान् गृध्रः प्रत्युवाच महास्वनः ॥ ॥४-५८-१॥
Iti uktaḥ karuṇam vākyam vānaraiḥ tyakta jīvitaiḥ |
Sa bāṣpo vānarān gṛdhraḥ pratyuvāca mahāsvanaḥ ॥4-58-1॥
Translation
Hearing these piteous words spoken by the Vanaras who had given up on life, that vulture (Sampati), filled with tears, spoke to the monkeys in a loud voice.

जीवन की आशा त्याग चुके वानरों द्वारा कहे गए ऐसे करुण वचन सुनकर, वह गिद्ध (सम्पाती) आंसुओं से भर गया और उसने उन वानरों से उच्च स्वर में कहा।
English Commentary
This verse marks a pivotal dramatic shift. Sampati, who initially viewed the Vanaras as easy prey, is transformed by overheard conversations mentioning his brother Jatayu. The phrase 'sa bashpo' (with tears) indicates immediate emotional resonance and grief, humanizing the giant bird. His 'mahasvanah' (loud voice) commands attention, shifting the focus from the Vanaras' despair to this new, imposing character. It illustrates the theme that shared grief can bridge the gap between predator and prey, turning a threat into an ally.
