ज्ञानेन खलु पश्यामि दृष्ट्वा प्रत्यागमिष्यथ ।
आद्यः पंथाः कुलिंगानाम् ये च अन्ये धान्य जीविनः ॥ ॥४-५८-२६॥
Jñānena khalu paśyāmi dṛṣṭvā pratyāgamiṣyatha |
Ādyaḥ panthāḥ kulīṅgānām ye ca anye dhānya jīvinaḥ ॥4-58-26॥
Translation
Indeed, I see through my intuition/divine knowledge that you will return after seeing her. The first path (layer of the atmosphere) belongs to Kulinga birds and others that live on grain.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं अपनी दिव्य दृष्टि (ज्ञान) से देख रहा हूँ कि तुम सीता को ढूँढकर वापस लौटोगे। (अब आकाश के मार्गों को सुनो)—पहला मार्ग कुलिंग पक्षियों (गोरैया आदि) और अन्य अनाज खाने वाले पक्षियों का है।
English Commentary
Sampati starts with a prophecy: 'You will return' ('pratyagamishyatha'). This assurance is vital for the morale of the discouraged troops. He then begins a fascinating discourse on avian flight zones, akin to modern atmospheric layers. The first layer ('adyah panthah') is for 'dhanya jivinah' (grain-eaters) like sparrows ('kulinganam'). This hierarchical classification of the sky serves to explain how he, flying at a much higher level, possesses superior vision, grounding his supernatural claims in biological "science."

सम्पाती पहले 'भविष्यवाणी' करता है—'प्रत्यागमिष्यथ' (तुम लौटोगे)। यह वानरों में आत्मविश्वास भर देता है। इसके बाद वह आकाश की गहराइयों (Atmospheric layers) का वैज्ञानिक वर्णन शुरू करता है। 'आद्यः पंथाः' (पहला मार्ग) पृथ्वी के सबसे निकट है, जहाँ 'धान्य जीविनः' (अनाज खाने वाले) छोटे पक्षी उड़ते हैं। यह वर्णन वाल्मीकि की प्रकृति और पक्षी विज्ञान (Ornithology) की समझ को दर्शाता है। सम्पाती यह बताकर अपनी विशेषज्ञता और विश्वसनीयता सिद्ध कर रहा है।
