निर्दग्ध पत्रः पतितो विन्ध्ये अहम् वानरर्षभाः ।
अहम् अस्मिन् वसन् भ्रातुः प्रवृत्तिम् न उपलक्षये ॥ ॥४-५८-७॥
Nirdagdha patraḥ patito vindhye aham vānararṣabhāḥ |
Aham asmin vasan bhrātuḥ pravṛttim na upalakṣaye ॥4-58-7॥
Translation
My wings were completely burnt, and I fell onto the Vindhya mountain, O excellent monkeys. Living here since then, I did not know the news/whereabouts of my brother.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वानर श्रेष्ठों! मेरे पंख जल गए और मैं विन्ध्य पर्वत पर गिर पड़ा। तब से यहीं निवास करते हुए मुझे अपने भाई का कोई समाचार (वृत्तांत) नहीं मिला।
English Commentary
The aftermath of the sacrifice is detailed here. Sampati was left 'nirdagdha patrah' (burnt-winged) and grounded on the Vindhya range. The physical fall from the heavens to the mountain mirrors his fall from grace and power. The tragedy is compounded by the separation; despite his sacrifice, he lost contact with Jatayu. He has lived in isolation ('asmin vasan'), unaware of his brother's fate until this chance meeting with the Vanaras. This explains his ignorance regarding Sita and Ravana up to this point.

बलिदान का परिणाम अत्यंत कठोर था। 'निर्दग्ध पत्रः' (जिसके पंख जल चुके हैं) होकर सम्पाती विन्ध्याचल पर गिरा और तब से वहीं एक अपंग जीवन जी रहा है। 'न उपलक्षये' (नहीं जाना/नहीं देखा) उसकी विडंबना को दर्शाता है—जिस भाई को बचाने के लिए उसने अपना सब कुछ खो दिया, वह उस भाई से बिछड़ गया और आज तक यह भी नहीं जानता था कि वह जीवित था या मर गया। वानरों के आगमन ने उसके युगों पुराने अज्ञान को समाप्त किया।
