Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स यातः तेजसा व्योम संक्षिपन् इव वेगतः ।
अथ अहम् खे चरैः भूतैः अभिगम्य सभाजितः ॥ ॥४-५९-१७॥
Sa yātaḥ tejasā vyoma saṃkṣipan iva vegataḥ । Atha aham khe caraiḥ bhūtaiḥ abhigamya sabhājitaḥ ॥ ॥4-59-17॥
Translation
He departed, seeming to compress the sky with his speed and energy. Thereafter, the beings moving in the sky approached me and praised me.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह अपने तेज (शक्ति) से आकाश को मानो सिकोड़ता हुआ वेग से चला गया। तदनंतर आकाश में विचरने वाले प्राणियों (सिद्ध, चारण आदि) ने मेरे पास आकर मेरी प्रशंसा की।
English Commentary
Ravana's departure is described with kinetic imagery—he moved so fast it seemed he was compressing the sky (Vyoma saṃkṣipan iva). Immediately after, celestial beings (Khe caraiḥ) approached and honored Suparshva. At first glance, this praise seems confusing since he let the villain escape. However, the context implies relief. The celestial observers were watching the encounter with bated breath, fearing that a clash between the giant bird and the demon king might harm Sita, or that Suparshva consuming Ravana would unintentionally consume the Divine Mother as well.

रावण का वेग इतना तीव्र था कि ऐसा लगा मानो आकाश छोटा पड़ गया हो ('व्योम संक्षिपन् इव')। उसके जाने के तुरंत बाद, आकाशचारी प्राणियों (खेचरैः) ने सुपार्श्व की प्रशंसा ('सभाजितः') की। यह प्रशंसा इसलिए नहीं थी कि उसने रावण को जाने दिया, बल्कि इसलिए थी कि 'सौभाग्य से' उसने रावण को खाया नहीं। यह विरोधाभास अगले श्लोक में स्पष्ट होगा। देवताओं और ऋषियों को चिंता थी कि यदि सुपार्श्व रावण को खाने का प्रयास करता, तो सीता को भी नुकसान पहुँच सकता था।
