Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दिष्ट्या जीवति सीत इति हि अब्रुवन् माम् महर्षयः ।
कथंचित् स कलत्रः असौ गतः ते स्वस्ति असंशयम् ॥ ॥४-५९-१८॥
Diṣṭyā jīvati sīta iti hi abruvan mām maharṣayaḥ । Kathaṃcit sa kalatraḥ asau gataḥ te svasti asaṃśayam ॥ ॥4-59-18॥
Translation
The great sages told me, "By good fortune, Sita is alive. Somehow he (Ravana) has gone past you with the lady; this is undoubtedly for your own well-being."
हिंदी अनुवाद
महर्षियों ने मुझसे कहा— 'सौभाग्य से सीता जीवित हैं। वह (रावण) अपनी पत्नी (अपहृता सीता) के साथ किसी तरह तुमसे बचकर चला गया, इसमें तुम्हारा कल्याण ही है, इसमें संदेह नहीं।'
English Commentary
The sages clarify the situation to the bewildered Suparshva. They exclaim Diṣṭyā jīvati Sīta (Luckily, Sita is alive), implying that Suparshva’s hunger could have led to a cosmic tragedy—the death of Sita. They also add that Ravana's escape was Te svasti (for your own good). This acknowledges Ravana's terrifying power; had Suparshva engaged in combat, he might have met the same fatal fate as his uncle Jatayu. Thus, the peaceful passage was a blessing in disguise for the bird as well.

यहाँ 'दिष्ट्या' (सौभाग्य से) शब्द का प्रयोग अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। महर्षियों ने सुपार्श्व को बताया कि जिसे वह साधारण भोजन समझ रहा था, वह साक्षात सीता थीं। यदि वह उन्हें खा लेता, तो अनर्थ हो जाता। साथ ही, ऋषियों ने कहा 'ते स्वस्ति' (तुम्हारा कल्याण है)। इसका अर्थ यह है कि रावण जैसे महाबली से उलझना सुपार्श्व के लिए भी घातक हो सकता था (जैसे जटayu के साथ हुआ)। अतः रावण का चुपचाप निकल जाना सुपार्श्व और सीता, दोनों के जीवन के लिए 'कल्याणकारी' रहा।
