सीता स्नेह प्रवृत्तेन स तु बाष्पेण दूषितः ।
हा प्रिये इति रुदन् धैर्यम् उत्सृज्य न्यपतत् क्षितौ ॥ ॥४-६-१७॥
Sītā sneha pravṛttena sa tu bāṣpeṇa dūṣitaḥ । Hā priye iti rudan dhairyam utsṛjya nyapatat kṣitau ॥ ॥4-6-17॥
Translation
Overwhelmed by tears born of his love for Sita, crying out "Oh Beloved!", he abandoned his fortitude and fell to the ground.

सीता के प्रति स्नेह के कारण उमड़े हुए आंसुओं से उनकी दृष्टि धुंधला गई। "हा प्रिये!" पुकारते हुए और धैर्य को त्यागकर वे भूमि पर गिर पड़े।
English Commentary
Rama’s grief completely overpowers his stoicism. The phrase dhairyam utsrjya (casting aside fortitude) is significant; it indicates that he voluntarily lets go of his composure to embrace his grief. Crying "Ha Priye" (Oh Beloved), he collapses to the ground. This vulnerability does not diminish his stature but deepens his character, showing that his capacity for love matches his capacity for war. The sight of the invincible warrior falling to the earth underscores the profound impact of Sita’s absence.

राम का धैर्य, जो उनकी सबसे बड़ी शक्ति है, यहाँ जवाब दे जाता है। 'धैर्यम् उत्सृज्य' (धैर्य छोड़कर) दर्शाता है कि दुःख की तीव्रता कितनी अधिक थी। वे 'हा प्रिये' (हा प्रियतमा) कह कर विलाप करते हैं और मूर्छित होकर या शक्तिहीन होकर जमीन पर गिर पड़ते हैं ('न्यपतत् क्षितौ')। यह दृश्य सुग्रीव और अन्य वानरों के लिए भी चौंकाने वाला रहा होगा, क्योंकि उन्होंने राम को एक महान योद्धा के रूप में देखा था, परन्तु यहाँ वे उन्हें प्रेम में अत्यंत कोमल और संवेदनशील देख रहे हैं।
