हनुमान् यन् निमित्तम् त्वम् निर्जनम् वनम् आगतः ।
लक्ष्मणेन सह भ्रात्रा वसतः च वने तव ॥ ॥४-६-२॥
Hanumān yan nimittam tvam nirjanam vanam āgataḥ । Lakṣmaṇena saha bhrātrā vasataḥ ca vane tava ॥ ॥4-6-2॥
Translation
"Hanuman has informed me of the reason why you have come to this uninhabited forest with your brother Lakshmana and why you are residing here."

"हनुमान ने मुझे बताया है कि आप किस कारण से अपने भाई लक्ष्मण के साथ इस निर्जन वन में आए हैं और यहाँ निवास कर रहे हैं।"
English Commentary
Sugriva confirms that he is aware of the context behind Rama's exile. By mentioning the nirjanam vanam (desolate forest), Sugriva acknowledges the harsh reality of Rama's current life, contrasting it implicitly with his royal background. This acknowledgment serves a practical narrative purpose: it saves Rama the pain of recounting the events of Ayodhya again. It shows Sugriva's readiness to listen to the immediate problem (Sita's abduction) rather than dwelling on past political misfortunes. It is a gesture of empathy, validating Rama's struggle in the wild.

सुग्रीव यहाँ पुष्टि कर रहे हैं कि उन्हें राम के वनवास के तथ्यों का ज्ञान है। 'निर्जनम् वनम्' (जनशून्य वन) का उल्लेख राम की कठिनाइयों को रेखांकित करता है। सुग्रीव यह जता रहे हैं कि एक राजकुमार का महलों को छोड़कर ऐसे बीहड़ वन में रहना सामान्य नहीं है, और वे इस त्याग और कष्ट के पीछे के कारण (कैकयी का वरदान और पिता की आज्ञा) को अब जानते हैं। यह एक मित्र द्वारा दूसरे मित्र की वर्तमान स्थिति को स्वीकार करने जैसा है, जिससे राम को अपनी कथा दोहराने की आवश्यकता नहीं पड़ती और सीधा मुख्य विषय पर बात हो सकती है।
