Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पश्य लक्ष्मण वैदेह्या संत्यक्तम् ह्रियमाणया ।
उत्तरीयम् इदम् भूमौ शरीराद् भूषणानि च ॥ ॥४-६-२०॥
Paśya lakṣmaṇa vaidehyā santyaktam hriyamāṇayā । Uttarīyam idam bhūmau śarīrād bhūṣaṇāni ca ॥ ॥4-6-20॥
Translation
"Look, Lakshmana! This upper garment and these ornaments were dropped onto the ground from her body by Vaidehi while she was being carried away."

"देखो लक्ष्मण! अपहरण की जाती हुई वैदेही ने अपने शरीर से उतारकर यह उत्तरीय और ये आभूषण धरती पर गिरा दिए थे।"
English Commentary
Rama explicitly directs Lakshmana's attention to the artifacts of the crime. Using the name Vaidehi emphasizes her lineage, contrasting her royal birth with her current plight. Rama reconstructs the event in his mind—visualizing Sita stripping these items from her body (sharirad) to leave a trace. It is a moment of shared investigation and shared sorrow, as Rama presents the physical evidence of the abduction to his brother.

राम लक्ष्मण का ध्यान उन वस्तुओं की ओर खींचते हैं। वे सीता को 'वैदेही' (विदेह राज की पुत्री) कहते हैं, जो उस समय की विडंबना को दर्शाता है—एक राजकुमारी जिसे वन में अपहृत किया गया। राम कल्पना कर रहे हैं कि कैसे सीता ने 'शरीराद्' (शरीर से) उतारकर इन्हें फेंका होगा। यह राम के मन में चल रहे उस दृश्य का चित्रण है जिसे उन्होंने देखा नहीं, पर महसूस कर रहे हैं। वे लक्ष्मण से पुष्टि चाहते हैं और अपने दुःख में भागीदार बना रहे हैं।
