ततः तत् दारुणम् कर्म दुष्करम् साहसात् कृतम् ।
आचचक्षे मुनेः सर्वम् सूर्य अनुगमनम् तथा ॥ ॥४-६१-१॥
Tataḥ tat dāruṇam karma duṣkaram sāhasāt kṛtam । Ācacakṣe muneḥ sarvam sūrya anugamanam tathā ॥ ॥4-61-1॥
Translation
Then, I narrated to the Sage that terrible and difficult deed done out of rashness, and the entire event of following the sun.

तब मैंने, साहस (अविवेक) के कारण किए गए उस दारुण (भयानक) और दुष्कर कर्म को, तथा सूर्य का पीछा करने की पूरी घटना को मुनि से कह सुनाया।
English Commentary
This verse marks the beginning of Sarga 61 and Sampati's formal confession. He characterizes his flight toward the sun as darunam (terrible/frightening) and dushkaram (difficult to do/feat). Crucially, he attributes the motivation to sahasat—which, in this context, implies rashness or temerity rather than courage. He admits that pursuing the sun (surya anugamanam) was an act of folly. By laying bare his mistake without justification, Sampati shows readiness for redemption. The narrative tone shifts from dialogue to storytelling.

यहाँ से इकसठवाँ सर्ग (Sarga 61) और संपाती की फ्लैशबैक कथा आरंभ होती है। संपाती स्वीकार करते हैं कि उनका कार्य 'साहसात्' (बिना सोचे-समझे, उतावलेपन में) किया गया था। संस्कृत में 'साहस' का अर्थ अक्सर नकारात्मक होता है—दुस्साहस। 'दुष्करम्' बताता है कि वह कार्य सामान्य जीवों के लिए असंभव था। संपाती अपनी गलती नहीं छिपाते; वे मुनि के सामने अपना 'दारुण कर्म' (भयानक कृत्य) स्वीकार करते हैं। यह स्वीकारोक्ति उनकी ईमानदारी और पश्चाताप को दर्शाती है।
